Summary
In John chapter 15, verses 1 to 4, we get to see the nurturing process of the True Vine (Jesus) and Vine-dresser (God the Father). We learn of the firm, yet loving role of the function of the True Vine and Vine-dresser. Both desire to give their sons (us believers) a firm foundation, food and sustenance for now and future seasons. It is like having a parent who disciplines, loves, and punishes, so a child grows up straight, strong, and with a solid direction. This process re-occurs and fortifies the substance of a child in Christ. Part of the growth of that child is to seek Jesus as The Way, The True Vine, in order to increase in the bearing of fruit.
