Who is more likely to come in like a flood?

Who is more likely to come in like a flood?

When the enemy shall come in like a flood the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him and put him to flight

(Isaiah 59:19 AMPC – Punctuation removed)

Isaiah 59:19 includes the words ‘….When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him and put him to flight….’

In various versions there is a comma after the word flood. This wrongly gives the impression the devil comes in like a flood. Given that there was no punctuation in the earliest manuscripts of the Old Testament we should consider removing the comma and read the verse again.

Then ask yourself, and ask the Holy Spirit: Who is more likely to come in like a flood? The devil who has been defeated, or the Spirit of the Lord? We believe that the Masoretes incorrectly added a comma after flood, and at a minimum it should be read without one and left up to the reader to decide with confirmation from the Holy Spirit.

The devil Satan and his demonic realm have no way to function upon this earth without working through the free will agreement of fallen man or lukewarm believers.

  1. Commas are powerful things. My editor’s ad for her business is, “Let’s eat, Grandma.” Or “Let’s eat Grandma.” BIG difference! Nicely done!
